Horsens is a Danish city with roots stretching back to the Viking Age, once a bustling trading spot along Horsens Fjord. Known later for its industrial growth, it also holds a dramatic past as home to Denmark’s most famous state prison. Today, the city has reinvented itself with modern cultural attractions, lively music festivals, and restored historic sites. Horsens offers a mix of Viking history, industrial heritage, and vibrant city life.
Walking through Horsens for us was a nice change of scenery on our Denmark road trip. We had been along the western danish coastline for a few days until we started to head east and spent some time in this town. We really enjoyed the cobblestone streets and the chill vibe of the town.
We started off with a quick fika (coffee and pastry) at Et Brod before continuing on our way through the city. We talked to a ceramics dealer for a bit about his life’s work and meandered through some of the alleyways in the city center. Overall we stayed two nights in Horsens which was plenty we felt to get a good understanding of what the city represents.
