Smögen is one of Sweden’s most beloved coastal gems, famous for its colorful wooden boathouses, lively boardwalk, and stunning seaside views. Located on the Bohuslän coast, this fishing village has grown into a must-visit destination for travelers seeking both charm and adventure. Visitors can stroll the 600-meter Smögenbryggan boardwalk, sample some of the freshest seafood in Sweden, or take a boat tour through the nearby granite archipelago. Whether you come for its vibrant summer atmosphere, picturesque scenery, or authentic Swedish west coast culture, Smögen offers the perfect blend of relaxation and exploration.
Smögen is a place that as an American, I hadn’t heard much about. If you’re Swedish, you most likely have heard it and know about it as a gorgeous destination on the Western coast. I didn’t know what to expect but it was our destination on our 2nd day of a road trip, first across Sweden, then all over Denmark.
We really enjoyed the ambience, the vibe, the quaint (and expensive), coastal homes, as well as the fresh seafood we got to enjoy for lunch. We even were able to take a swim nearby and the water was incredibly refreshing. I would say that Smögen, despite its popularity is worth seeing while you’re in this part of Sweden. Even Danes and Norwegians with boats are extremely common sights of those who dock here, showing just how much of a paradise it is across all of Scandinavia.
This blog post outlines some of the fun things you can do and see while in Smögen.
