I managed to see the city of Maribor during my Slovenian road trip a few years ago. I didn't know what to expect from it but was pleasantly surprised by how nice the city was as well as the people. Situated on a river, the whole city is one gorgeous facade with mostly orange rooftops and old buildings. The entire coastline area is walkable and very enjoyable in spring and summer weather.
